You like fighting games? You like baseball? You like hip-hop? Wait, what the hell does any of that have to do with each other?
It’s this week’s “Weird Shit You Should Try”, a free flash game that has evolved into a full-fledged release on Steam, Lethal League.
LL is a baseball fighting game (?) where 2+ players must do their best to avoid a single baseball bouncing around on screen. Every player has a baseball bat, meaning they can redirect the baseball, as well as speed it up, by hitting it, meaning the game is based on balancing avoiding the baseball, and approaching it in order to escalate the game. The last man standing wins.
How good is LL? So good. For reference, attached is a video of the game’s first time in the spotlight, as the final game for the Mystery Game tournament at UFGT (which is a fairly big fighting game tournament). Watch as, within 12 minutes, the crowd goes from confused to hype as hell (the game goes apeshit at around 11:30). This outing made the game so popular that the devs actually made it a full fledged game, with multiple characters and a huge, radical soundtrack.
If you like simple but interesting multiplayer games like Nidhogg, plus a rad soundtrack and faster gameplay, I strongly recommend at least the free version of Lethal League.
