TL;DR; You will soon be able to play Minecraft in the middle of your living room! How cool is that. (See Photo Above)
Windows Holographic
If you haven’t seen the latest announcement from Microsoft: that it is releasing a holographic engine for Windows 10 called Windows Holographic, don’t worry, it will be taking over your social media feeds soon.
The new Microsoft HoloLens announced last night at their Windows 10 event, will allow users to see holographic projections in front of them and interact with simple gestures, similar to that of the Microsoft Kinect Motion Sensor.
HoloBuilder brings Minecraft to your Living Room
What Excites me the most is seeing the teases of the “HoloBuilder” which looks to allow you to play and interact with Minecraft in the middle of your living room!
With the acquisition of Mojang in September, we in the gaming community discussed how Microsoft would expand Minecraft, and it seems we now have an answer.
From those that have had the opportunity to play it, HoloBuilder makes it feel as if “your walls and surfaces were made of Minecraft bricks.” Sean Hollister of Gizmodo mentioned that he “knocked a hole in a table that let me see THROUGH the table, down into a cavernous underground with a giant lava pit at the bottom.”
I’m hoping that Microsoft will be showcasing the HoloLens and HoloBuilder at PAX South in San Antonio this weekend, at least a little bit. If not, I guess I will have to find another way to get my hands on a demo as soon as possible!
It seems the HoloDeck is quickly becoming a reality, and it only makes sense that one of the first places it will be realized is in the gaming space.
